Life is full of situations where we must decide if we are willing to take a chance. Should we invest our money in stocks, bond, mutual funds or put it in a bank account or even hide it under our mattress? Should we take a chance that the bungy cord will hold if we jump off the bridge, or that the hang-glider will function correctly, and we will get safely back on the ground?
As Christians Satan sometimes gets us to take chances that could jeopardize our eternal life. He stalks us and sets snares for us, hoping to entangle us in them.
I Peter 5:8: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
II Timothy 2:24-26: 24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
Satan is always looking for ways gain an advantage on us, to convince us that everything is OK.
II Corinthians 2:11: Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
Satan doesn’t play fair, he will lie to us or misrepresent dangers to us.
II Corinthians 11:14: And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
All we have to do is look back to Adam and Eve to see that he will make it look like there is no danger in sinful activities.
Genesis 3:1-5: 1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
If you haven’t obeyed the gospel and are not living your life in the manner in which God has designated, Satan has gotten you to take the biggest chance of your life. You are betting your eternal soul, and that is a bet you cannot afford to lose.
